Setlist #40 6.23.10 - Summertime (New time slot!)
Hey y'all
So, sorry I didn't post the last six weeks of the show. It's ok, because no one reads this and it's really just for history's sake. Anyways... Morning Wood has a new time slot. 7-9 am! I know it's early, but I wanted it that way. DJ Turbo convinced me that having a show real early on a weekday is the choicest time because of folks in the shower and in their cars to work and such. So today was the first try at the crack of dawn slot. I liked it; it reminds me of the graveyard shift I had years ago. Hopefully people really are listening. Also, it's two hours again! More work, but more fun. PLUS, a few weeks ago I started a new tradition within Morning Wood: it's called Woodshop! I found this cool record released by The Standard Oil Company of California (Chevron!) It was intended for elementary/high school teachers... in 1975. It contains fantastic interviews of musicians about their instruments and their lives as musicians. Some interviews I played in the unwritten last five weeks were Stan Getz, Jean-Pierre Rampal and Susan Willoughby. Hopefully I can continue finding interviews and such about wind instruments beyond this record... It's gonna be a great summer!
This is what I played:

Unfortunately, I cannot find my setlist from last week. Belloq came on the show like the good old days and it was an amazing show. I will post the list if it shows up.

Setlist #32 4.18.10 - Pet Owner's Independence Episode
This Sunday was Pet Owners' Independence Day! This holiday requires that all pet owners switch lifestyles with their pets. This means you get to laze around all day and eat all you want and shit outside, and your cat or dog has to go to work for you. So really, I should have not done this show, and made my Siamese:) Jinx go DJ. Unfortunately, the night before Pet Owners' Independence Day I got really drunk at the new DJ trainee party, and woke up in my own bed with my t-shirt tucked into my jeans and without my cell phone. Thus, I was a half hour late to the show and I forgot to bring little Jinxy. Happy Pet Owners' Independence Day!

Setlist #31 4.12.10 Environmental Education Episode
Starting this week, Morning Wood will now have a theme each week. I am going to try and make it related to some sort of holiday or awareness week, because it turns out there are multiple unofficial holidays every day. This Sunday was the beginning of National Environmental Education Week. It is raining again here in San Luis Obispo, and it makes me remember we are all just tiny animals living on a tiny round rock floating in the universe and we happen to have super-developed brains and we built all this shit around us so we forget we are living, breathing organisms. Don't forget that. Whatever your beliefs are about religion or whatever, you must know that the Earth is our real mother, and we have to be nice. I tried to play all music that related to environmentalism, at least in my head.
Live More / Waste Less.
Setlist #31 4.12.10
Miles Davis - I'll Remember Spring
The Beta Band - Dry The Rain
Soft Cell - Torch
CocoRosie - Tahiti Rain Song
Zia - Helelyos
Sixto Rodriguez - Sugar Man
Michael Jackson - Earth Song
Okapi - Love Him
Stevie Wonder - Earth's Creation
Gonjasufi - Sheep
Sparks - Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth
Michael will inspire you.
Don't be a litter bug! :)

Change/Setlist #30 4/4 - Easter Edition
I am sorry to discover that it has been 9 weeks since the last post, but then I realize that no one will ever read this blog. The end of last quarter produced many distractions - including a trip to Canada - and I was unable to post our past 6 setlists. Whatever.
There has been some change at Morning Wood. DJ Belloq is no longer a permanent host of the show. He has focused in on his krautrock show Die Koshmische Ei. It is now on Sundays from 8-10pm. It's a fantastic show - check it out. So, it will be me, DJ Gibbler at the controls. Also, the show is reduced to 1 hour.
I really hope to get the recordings of my show on this site. Hopefully that happens in the near future.
Until then, listen to Morning Wood, the only wind instrumentation specialty show in the world, on 91.3fm or go to kcpr.org and listen live on Sunday mornings from 11-12pm!
Here is what I played today on the Easter edition of Morning Wood:

(Passion Pit influence?)
Here is a video from Justin Vernon's time with EC Memorial Jazz. Nicole, a great friend, is California's unique connection to Justin Vernon, and I am very lucky to have a hard copy of the recordings with this unbelievable high school jazz band. (pay special attention to the lead trombone, he's Nicole's little bro). Also, the flute player (Cheng Cheng) will become extremely famous guaranteed. Best high school jazz flute player in the world, no question.
p.s. You may hear some changes in Morning Wood in the near future. Belloq is gonna focus on his krautrock show, and MW may be consolidated to 1 hour. All good things though, keep it tuned.
*means brand new music

Back On! Sundays 11-1, 91.3fm
Hey! It's the New Year! Morning Wood is airing now from 11am to 1pm every SUNday morning. It's gonna be a sick quarter! Belloq and I are now totally warmed up to kill it from here on out. Today we are showcasing our favorite discoveries of 2009. 91.3fm! Also, after MW now is Die Kosmische Ei! Belloq is hosting a krautrock show all by himself, and it's gonna be unreal, so you have to stay tuned for that!
Love,
Kimmy G.
